Description of The Away Station
The Away Station’s (TAS) mission is Zero Waste in Marin, San Francisco Bay Area, and modeling for other municipalities and counties to attain Zero Waste. The Away Station does this by creating marketplaces for building materials to be ReUsed, RePaired, RePurposed, and ReSold, in order to keep building materials and more out of the landfill.
The Away Station was Marin’s only ReUse facility, providing a way for builders, Artists, homeowners, DYIers, apartment managers, (everyone) to donate and find ReClaimed Building Materials, Furniture, Treasures, Art Supplies, etc. The Away Station (TAS ) was a SocialProfit Corp (501c3) located with a 100 year old, employee owned ForProfit Business – Fairfax Lumber and Hardware Store in Fairfax. Our salvaged materials included 100’s of doors, windows, lighting, hardware, pipes and plumbing fixtures, landscaping materials, housewares, hard furniture, Art and art supplies, and misc eclectic treasures.
The mission of The Away Station was to serve the community in it’s commitment to a Zero Waste lifestyle, by providing a convenient facility and services for the collection and redistribution of the by-products of our consumption (or unwanted materials), while educating the public on best practices for reuse, reduction, redesign and recycling and creating fulfilling green collar jobs and training opportunities.
Now that The Away Station facility in Fairfax has closed, I still have a commitment in the world to create Zero waste systems, continuing with the San Francisco Bay Area, to our culture.
I will continue to do this by creating marketplaces for building materials to be incorporated into re-use and re-purposing of building materials.
“My passion is creating MarketPlaces for building materials to be ReUsed, RePaired, RePurposed, and and ReSold.”
